Workspace of an artist…

Just a quick note pointing to some snapshots I took on Saturday in Martin Gyger’s studio.

I visited Martin Gyger's art studio

I like seeing other people’s workplaces…

Martin told me that he will be moving into a new workspace very soon, but before he moves out he’ll organize an exhibition. I forget the exact date but this should be some time in early September. And Martin says he’s planning to take part in this year’s Portes Ouvertes on 18th and 19th October.

Martin displays much of his work on Flickr. His work is for sale. Contact him directly if you’re interested in getting an original or a print.

Puzzled

This t-shirt text puzzled me this morning…

ZIM
TST
ERN

I figured it out after a while but at first I kept associating ZIM with Zimbabwe.

the window sill

I’ve uploaded two batches of snapshots to my Flickr stream. I’m a snapshotter at heart and I’m not spending much time correcting or editing my work (yet).

Unhindered by talent or technical skills, I hope I can at least convey the fun I’m having. I particularly enjoyed Saturday’s photo tour with Diveangel.

like the colours...

BTW, there’s a Basel Flickr meetup planned for 27th July 2008.

Jet lag

Last night was the second night that I couldn’t sleep cos of jet lag. Instead of trying to relax, I started googling for sites on combatting jet lag. One thing is sure, I’m doing it wrong. Apparently it takes one day of recovery for every timezone I crossed…

My current strategy is to go out and get some sun.

A couple of other links that I’d like to share:

Cooking and gardening are subversive activities. An interesting video on food.

There’s a Canon cam hack which I might try out (via TWiP).

Found a site that offers video podcasts on CSS.

Chrischona = done

A small feat to celebrate in my personal blog: I jogged uphill from Riehen to St. Chrischona today at a slow and leisurely pace. The first part was tough, but about half way between Riehen and Bettingen I started to feel better. I guess the endorphin production kicked in.

Despite a setback due to flu, my regular training is paying off. Just like the message on the Ovo packaging: Never give up. Concepts which apply to other areas as well…

While running I was constantly writing and re-phrasing statements for this blog post… Something fellow blogger Persillie calls mind blogging. For me it’s one of the added benefits of running: mapping out ideas and reflecting on experiences and dreaming; mixed with lots of fresh air and movement.

I’ll try to re-run this route once in a while. And there’s also the Chrischonalauf to consider.

Flickriver

Scrolling Ad Infinitum:

I discovered a new Flickr tool called Flickriver…
It loads all images into one long html page, i.e. you simply scroll down to view all pictures for a tag or group:

Canon ImageBrowser to FlickrUploadr:

BTW, I’ve found a shortcut how to add photos from Canon ImageBrowser to Flickr Uploadr. In the ImageBrowser, open Preferences and add Flickr Uploadr to the list of external editing applications. Once you’ve added it, you can send images to Flickr Uploadr while in preview mode using Edit > Edit with Registered Application > Flickr Uploadr.

Alternative to Satellite:

I stumbled across lumis Gallery. The concept is similar to Satellite, i.e. you can host photos on Flickr and reload them on your own server within your own layout. It seems to have more features…. It requires PHP 5 and a Flickr account.

Recent cultural activities

Saw the play “Angst” at Theater Basel. It’s a kind of like a mashup with glimpses of 3 separate households on one stage, which then interweave towards the end. Entertaining. But it is not really deep or philosophical or thought-provoking. Covers all types of fear…

Saw the movie “The Namesake”. Sad and moving. Great mood. A topic I can relate to. Recommended.

Went to Grönemeyer’s concert in Bern. Fun.

Went to the Schaulager exhibition on Robert Gober (sinks, sinks, sinks). And to see the architecture of the Herzog & de Meuron building.

TV Sunday

I just zapped into the making of Vitus on Swiss TV:

Die VITUSmacher

A film I really enjoyed. If you get a chance, go see it esp. in dialect…

It’s raining cats and dogs in Basel. I hope this rainy weather will not result in floods and landslides in the mountains.

open air cinema on the Muensterplatz

Yesterday I saw War of Lord* at the open air cinema on the Muensterplatz. I was lucky: it didn’t rain! It’s a good movie and realistic. And the movie definitely brings its message across. Category: Must see.

update:
*an offline commentator pointed out that I got the film title wrong. It’s Lord of War, starring Nicholas Cage.
