TV Sunday
I just zapped into the making of Vitus on Swiss TV:
A film I really enjoyed. If you get a chance, go see it esp. in dialect…
It’s raining cats and dogs in Basel. I hope this rainy weather will not result in floods and landslides in the mountains.
Yesterday I saw War of Lord* at the open air cinema on the Muensterplatz. I was lucky: it didn’t rain! It’s a good movie and realistic. And the movie definitely brings its message across. Category: Must see.
update:
*an offline commentator pointed out that I got the film title wrong. It’s Lord of War, starring Nicholas Cage. -

Rhetorical question of the day …
What would computing be without progress bars?
I spent this weekend re-configuring my Ubuntu installation. It’s been about 6 months since I moved from Windows and I’m more than happy with Ubuntu and the Gnome desktop. I may try out Kubuntu sometime. Or try setting up an Ubuntu server.
I’m still a newbie user but I’m slowly getting the hang of things as I go along.

Reflective Moment
Where do I come from?
Where am I going to?
Who am I?
Three central questions which surface every so often in literature, philosophy and personal lifestyles.
worth a reflective moment…
[update May 25] found this very interesting read via Innovation Wings on product development:
Having a cup of coffee first thing in the morning is as much of what you do as finite element analysis. I’m not trying to demean anybody’s highly valuable skills, rather, I think people don’t engage in this type of self-reflection often enough. It is healthy to question authority. It is illuminating to review not only your self-value, but your role in the cosmic scheme. The small picture is what keeps you going, the big picture is what keeps you humble. Our animal selves tell us that the ship date is coming up and our brain will be in a better position to release endorphins if it is met on time. Our spiritual selves argue that life goes on no matter what you do. Which is correct?
Thought I’d drop the above quote in here. There is something inherent in us that questions our inmost being. From the purpose of life to IT product development.

Tinguely Brunnen in Ice
Sunny but icy cold…
Just 5 mins down the road from Tinguely Brunnen, police from all over north-west Switzerland stopped an unapproved anti-WEF demo from marching thru the streets of Basel…

Tinguely Museum, Basel
Weather has been very rainy and cold here. I spent yesterday afternoon at the Tinguely Museum… some snapshots:

Close-up of a Niki de Saint Phalle sculpture in the museum park… could be South African from the colours.

And here’s the full view.

The museum was built by Mario Botta. I particularly like the view from inside the building over the Rhein.

The mitsubishi ad
One of the regular highlights of a Malawi visit is driving the Mitsubishi 4wd pick-up. It’s a solid vehicle, ideal for Malawi road conditions. And it’s fun to drive…

But I did manage to lose grip in this ditch…

YAMP…
