Quite a party with over 3700 participants. Took 6 minutes before I crossed the starting line &#8216;cos of the huge crowd of runners and walkers. Wow. Quite impressive.<\/p>\n<p>I ran slowly and steadily from start to finish. Proud to say I didn&#8217;t stop running even though my innermost really wanted to stop. <\/p>\n<p>I think I like taking part in races. (<a href=\"https:\/\/dict.leo.org\/forum\/viewUnsolvedquery.php?idThread=128441&#038;idForum=1&#038;lang=de&#038;lp=ende\">How do you say &#8220;Volkslauf&#8221; in English?<\/a> It&#8217;s difficult to translate). It gives me a measurable goal to train for.  <\/p>\n<p>Next seasonal goal is to participate in a 10 km run. I thought the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lauftraeff-birsegg.ch\/jubilaeumslauf14info.php\">Birsegg run<\/a> would fit in nicely at the end of August. Or maybe the 10 km version on Basel Marathon day on 28th September?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been googling training plans. Things I&#8217;ve read:<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll need to train longer. 60 mins to 90 mins.<\/p>\n<p>Means more commitment. Sometimes just getting out the door is so hard. <\/p>\n<p>Short 10 minute runs are better than skipping a run.<\/p>\n<p>Include longer, slow runs.<\/p>\n<p>Cycling is good. Swimming and aqua jogging is good &#8216;cos there&#8217;s no impact.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/chiperoni\/863614530\" title=\"sportiva by nchenga nchenga, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1021\/863614530_29d8e4d2df.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"216\" alt=\"sportiva\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been thinking about <a href=\"\/wordpress\/2013\/11\/scott-adams-on-goals-vs-systems-httpbit-ly1gfoojj\/\">goals and systems<\/a>. The system in this particular scenario is to get out and run regularly. Even if it&#8217;s a short jog before work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/chiperoni\/1272874285\" title=\"close up of my running shoes by nchenga nchenga, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1002\/1272874285_d6a409f3c9.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"close up of my running shoes\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even though I&#8217;ve run 10 km before, I might start a jog log here or on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nchenga\">Twitter<\/a> just to keep track. Writing helps.
