{"id":43,"date":"2005-01-20T18:44:34","date_gmt":"2005-01-20T17:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chiperoni.ch\/wordpress\/?p=43"},"modified":"2005-01-20T18:58:43","modified_gmt":"2005-01-20T17:58:43","slug":"pre-emptive-project-planning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chiperoni.ch\/wordpress\/2005\/01\/pre-emptive-project-planning\/","title":{"rendered":"pre-emptive project planning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I  took part in last week&#8217;s STC web seminar on pre-emptive project planning by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hedtke.com\">John Hedtke<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Found it practical and useful.  <\/p>\n<p>His main points:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plan ahead<\/strong><br \/>\nThe real problem is the projects you don&rsquo;t know about that land on your desk suddenly and without warning.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Keep it simple<\/strong><br \/>\nUse a simple excel sheet to track your current and upcoming projects  instead of project tracking software.<br \/>\nProject tracking software depends on clear, stated dependencies that do not change frequently.<br \/>\nTechnical communications has multiple interconnected dependencies that can change daily, sometimes hourly.    <\/p>\n<p><strong>Gather information about projects that officially don&rsquo;t exist yet<\/strong><br \/>\nUse informal and formal ways to find out what projects might become real.<\/p>\n<p>Distribute your project plan to everybody except sales.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Communicate<\/strong><br \/>\nTalk to everyone at all levels. Ask probing questions. Don&rsquo;t believe the official pronouncements.
