{"id":400,"date":"2007-02-07T18:21:09","date_gmt":"2007-02-07T17:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chiperoni.ch\/wordpress\/archives\/2007\/02\/07\/lift-conf-day-1\/"},"modified":"2007-02-07T18:50:31","modified_gmt":"2007-02-07T17:50:31","slug":"lift-conf-day-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chiperoni.ch\/wordpress\/2007\/02\/lift-conf-day-1\/","title":{"rendered":"LIFT conf ( Day 1 )"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s pouring outside and I&#8217;m taking a quick moment to publish my unreflected notes that I took in today&#8217;s sessions, p\u00c3\u00aale-m\u00c3\u00aale, off the top of my head, in shorthand:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Morning session:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The slides are available <a href=\"http:\/\/intelligentmeasurement.wordpress.com\/2007\/02\/07\/diy-workshop-on-monitoring-and-evaluation-in-geneva\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Evaluating and monitoring projects doesn&#8217;t need to be costly, esp. with free web survey and website statistics tools.<\/p>\n<p>Goal is &#8220;to prove and improve&#8221; website and communication projects.<\/p>\n<p>I liked the way Glenn emphasized the ending of words: &#8220;outpu<em>tt<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another point I found important: in many projects the emphasis lies on the activities, the processes and the output, instead of the outcome and the impact or goal. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Afternoon session:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon I went to Clark Eliott&#8217;s workshop on <strong>Collaboration and Innovation in Workspace.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Teamwork needs to be reflected in the workspace, but should also offer focus areas if you need to concentrate on a single activity (like writing, coding) and phone booth areas.<\/p>\n<p>People are resistant to change and will come up with thousands of &#8220;Yes, but&#8230;&#8221; Go ahead with the change plans and offer to be on location and change things when disaster strikes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ideas come from everywhere. Share everything you can&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge workers work on average 9.1 hrs a day.<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge sharing should be rewarded. But often the reverse happens instead, people who withhold or retain knowledge are promoted. <\/p>\n<p>Some ideas how to offer virtual collaboration areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>offer a mashup between online calendars and online map to show where people in distributed teams are currently located<\/li>\n<li>offer some kind of a company Twitter<\/li>\n<li>one guy reported that they&#8217;re announcing successful or failed software builds using a toy jingle, has become some kind of a team ritual<\/li>\n<li>identify location of distributed teams using RFID tags<\/li>\n<li>greet knowledge worker in their personal workspace using RFID tags.
